The Limited Voter Registration exercise has resumed after a day’s break. The W93.5FM Lambuuri team supported by STAR-Ghana, witnessed registration kick-start in several areas in the Jirapa district. The figures show that the exercise is gathering momentum as day one of the second leg has tremendously surpassed day one of the first leg. The Wa municipality was no different as several first timers were seen queuing up at the various registration centres.

Speaking to w935fmnews, the District Chief Executive for Jirapa Hon. Cletus Dapila expressed his satisfaction and linked it to the W93.5FM Lanbuuri project, supported by STAR-Ghana. He said, ‘I think your partnership has been helpful in getting people out to register.’

Deputy Regional Director of the EC said, ‘We worked so hard to prevent all difficulties in the first phase of the limited registration across the region and I’m sure we are on course.’ However, reports show the Sissala West District is facing the challenge of low turnout due to the distance people would have to travel to get registered. Residents of Kandia for instance, have to travel a distance up to 15 kilometers from an area where reliable public transport is limited to market days.
Alhassan Dimbie a resident of Kandia said he does not have money to take a vehicle to register and come back home. He said, ‘As I stand here I don’t have money to buy fertilizer for my farm so am thinking of how to get that. I just completed SHS and I don’t have that money so am looking for it. If they set up a centre at Kandia or Boti, I will register.’

Chief Executive of the Sissala West district Bukari Dramani,  confirmed the challenge, “I think the distances are far apart. I can’t imagine our people moving from Kandia to Pulima to register in this exercise.  I will suggest to the EC to create some makeshift registration centres to help those who live far from the centres.’
