NDA committed to fulfilling Akufo-Addo’s promises to chiefs in Upper West Region – Deputy CEO

The deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in charge of projects and member of the interim management committee of the Northern Development Authority (NDA), Stephen Kojo Engmen has indicated the authority’s readiness to fulfil president Akufo-Addo’s promises to chiefs in the Upper West region.

The president on his latest working visit to the Upper West region made separate promises to the paramount chiefs of Wa and Lambussie. Mr. Akufo-Addo promised Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, a school block and ancillary facilities to house the newly established Naa Pelpuo Islamic School currently operating at the Wa Naa Palace. He also pledged to work on dams and toilet facilities in the Lambussie District as requested by the Lambussie Kuoro Issakah Kazie Zengeh Tanjeh II. To this end, President Akufo-Addo charged the NDA to take care of the requested projects and ensure they are delivered.

Speaking to the media at the sidelines of the President’s tour, the Deputy CEO in charge of operations said the president’s directives will be put to work in a matter of weeks. He said the projects will be discussed immediately he returns to the NDA head office in Tamale, further stating that a quantity surveyor will be sent to take the estimates for the Wa Naa Fusieni Pelpuo IV school project within a week, so that work can start as soon as possible. On the dams and sanitary facilities that are being done by the NDA, Mr. Engmen said his outfit is committed to completing the projects for the people as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Stephen Engmen indicated that the Authority will soon resume paying its contractors to enable them deliver various projects. He said the process of payments to their contractors started last year but was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. He however disclosed that the Authority was able to pay some contractors early this year.

He further revealed that, the finance minister has released monies for the NDA to pay contractors who have presented interim payment certificates, indicating that not every contractor can be captured for the time being.

The Northern Development Authority was established by President Nana Akufo-Addo in his first term to replace the defunct Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) and serve as a vehicle that will see to the development and transformation of the savannah ecological area. The NDA implements government’s projects that are captured under the initiative, Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).
