Youth of Busa, a “stronghold” of the NPP in the Wa central constituency and hometown of NPP’s founding member, B.K Adama, have expressed extreme disappointment in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for blatantly snubbing them on the occasion of their maiden “Homecoming” event.

Lead organizer of the event, Adams Toufique said he could not fathom why the NPP and government chose to embarrass a community that has been loyal to them on such an important day. Mr. Toufique explained that invites were duly served on the Upper West Regional Minister, the Wa Municipal Chief Executive and the NPP, yet the party decided to “boycott” the event. “I was personally part of the team that delivered the invites to the Regional Minister and MCE. We even followed up and the MCE particularly asked that I help draft his speech; which I did. Even today (day of the event) I spoke with the MCE, so what justification can they have?” he quizzed.

Mr. Toufique said the youth were however consoled by the massive representation from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other luminaries. “Although it was embarrassing, the NDC showed up in their numbers to support us; very important personalities including the Regional Chairman, Wa Central constituency chairman and former Ambassador Khalid are all here to support us” he added.

Meanwhile, information from the NPP secretariat says the party is unhappy about the situation, citing communication gaps as a possible cause.

Assembly member for Busa electoral area, Mwineyela Mahama expressed his satisfaction over the high turnout at the event. Hon. Mahama hinted that, the “homecoming” will be an annual event aimed at promoting unity and peaceful coexistence among natives and also bring together all persons of Busa origin to set a developmental agenda for the community.

At the maiden event, it was resolved to construct a community library and also prioritize the training of some unskilled youth in the community. “Our developmental priority is to construct a community library. We also wish to finance the training of some of our youth with employable skills”
