Parliamentary Candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Wa Central Constituency, Hajia Humu Awudu, will today Thursday, October 08, 2020, file her nomination for the 2020 parliamentary election.
Information available to W93.5FM indicates that the lone female parliamentary candidate in the Upper West region will submit the nomination forms to the Electoral Commission later in the afternoon. It is further disclosed that Hajia Humu and supporters and sympathisers of the NPP will converge at the Party’s Constituency Youth Secretariat at 2:00pm, from where they will proceed to the office of the Electoral Commission along the Nakori road to submit the forms.
It will be recalled that the EC on September 14, 2020 announced the opening of nominations for the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections effective Monday, October 5, to Friday, October 9, for all political parties and eligible Ghanaians who wish to contest. The filing fees for presidential and parliamentary candidates were pegged at GH₵100,000.00 and GH₵10,000.00 respectively.
Due to COVID-19 protocols, however, the Commission made available the nomination forms on its website to all political parties as well as independent candidates. It is therefore unclear how many people will be filing to contest the Wa Central Constituency election.
The incumbent MP and 2020 parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress, Dr Hassan Rashid Pelpuo submitted his nomination forms on Tuesday, October 6, to the EC. Edison Hanif Tuurosung of the Liberal Party of Ghana is also expected to file his nomination tomorrow to join the contest for the Wa Central seat.
Hajia Humu Awudu is touted by many to oust the incumbent who has been in parliament for the past 16 years.
